AI Forward Deployment Engineer
Position Description

As an AI Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of clients, software engineering and agentic AI-taking ownership of complex challenges and transforming ideas into prototypes, operational pilots and production-ready solutions. You'll have the freedom to explore emerging OpenAI and Microsoft technologies, creatively applying them to real-world enterprise challenges while developing reusable approaches that create value across clients and sectors. Supported by CGI's collaborative community of experts, you'll work directly with clients, influence how AI solutions are shaped and deployed, and help define the next generation of AI-enabled services at CGI.

Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will work directly with clients and CGI teams to identify high-value opportunities for agentic AI, turning ambiguous business challenges into clearly scoped solutions with measurable outcomes. You'll take ownership from early discovery and pre-sales through rapid prototyping, pilots and operational deployment, using your engineering judgement to balance innovation, technical feasibility, security and business value.
You'll have the opportunity to experiment with emerging AI capabilities while being supported by specialists across architecture, cyber, platforms and governance. As solutions prove their value, you'll help evolve them into secure, scalable products and reusable patterns that can accelerate AI adoption across CGI's clients and sectors.
• Discover & Shape - Embed with clients to understand workflows, technology and business challenges, identifying valuable opportunities for AI.
• Prototype & Validate - Rapidly create prototypes, interfaces and MVPs that demonstrate possibilities and validate ideas.
• Design & Deploy - Build agentic AI systems that integrate with enterprise infrastructure, data and operational workflows.
• Engineer & Integrate - Develop across user interfaces, backend services, APIs, integrations, data and cloud environments.
•Secure & Scale - Progress validated concepts into robust, governed and scalable production solutions.
• Advise & Influence - Present solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders and contribute technical expertise to RFPs, bids and tenders.
• Innovate & Reuse - Transform successful implementations into reusable agentic patterns, workflows, assets and propositions.
• Collaborate & Deliver - Work alongside CGI and client specialists to overcome complex engineering challenges and deliver lasting business value.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
You'll combine strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience of AI-assisted development and an understanding of agentic AI. You should be comfortable working directly with clients, navigating ambiguity and moving quickly from ideas to working software.
Curiosity about emerging AI technologies is important, alongside the judgement to apply them responsibly within complex enterprise environments. You'll be supported in deepening your expertise while having the autonomy to explore new approaches and influence CGI's evolving AI capabilities.
• Hands-on AI tooling experience - Experience with OpenAI Codex, Microsoft Copilot, Claude Code or comparable AI-assisted/agentic coding tools.
• Agentic AI understanding - Practical knowledge of context, tool use, orchestration, evaluation and guardrails.
• Strong engineering foundations - Broad understanding of front-end applications, backend services, APIs, integrations and cloud infrastructure.
• End-to-end delivery experience - Experience progressing software from experimentation and prototyping into operational deployment.
• Client-facing capability - Experience in pre-sales, solution engineering, consulting or client-embedded delivery.
• Clear communication - Ability to explain complex technical concepts, value, limitations and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Desirable agent engineering experience - Exposure to OpenAI Agents SDK/API, Codex SDK/API, MCP, skills, subagents or comparable agent frameworks.
• Desirable Microsoft AI experience - Exposure to technologies such as Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, Copilot Studio or related Microsoft AI capabilities.
• Desirable enterprise AI experience - Knowledge of evaluation, observability, permissions, sandboxing, human oversight and deploying AI in secure or regulated environments.
• Desirable platform experience - Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, DevOps and enterprise integration.
• Desirable sector experience - Financial services or banking domain experience.
