In this role, you will work alongside CGI and client delivery teams to design, build, enhance, and support digital services that improve how citizens access critical education services. Working within Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and agile delivery frameworks, you will contribute to the full software development lifecycle, creating secure, scalable, and user-focused applications that deliver measurable benefits to end users.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop secure, scalable applications using C# .NET and ASP.NET technologies.
- Build and maintain modern web applications using HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and responsive design principles.
- Develop and support RESTful APIs and backend services for digital platforms.
- Implement and enhance event‑driven architectures using Azure Service Bus, Queue Storage, and messaging technologies.
- Manage and optimise data storage solutions including SQL Server, Cosmos DB, Redis Cache, and Blob Storage.
- Collaborate and deliver within agile, multidisciplinary teams following GDS standards and best practices.
- Apply and champion modern engineering practices including TDD, CI/CD, and automated testing.
- Support and improve identity and access management solutions using Azure AD, OAuth, Gov One Login, and DfE Sign‑in.
- Contribute and innovate on mobile‑first digital experiences and CMS‑driven solutions such as Contentful.
- Maintain and strengthen application security through remediation activities, IT Health Checks, and penetration testing recommendations.
Essential Qualifications
- Strong experience developing applications using C# .NET and ASP.NET.
- Experience building modern front‑end web applications using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
- Proven experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs.
- Knowledge of Azure cloud services and associated platform technologies.
- Experience with SQL Server and other modern data storage technologies.
- Understanding of event‑driven architectures and messaging technologies.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment practices.
- Strong understanding of Test Driven Development (TDD) and software engineering best practices.
- Knowledge of Git‑based version control systems such as GitHub.
- Understanding of authentication and authorisation technologies including Azure AD and OAuth.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working within GDS standards and Government Digital Service delivery frameworks.
- Experience with Cosmos DB, Redis Cache, and Azure Blob Storage.
- Knowledge of NServiceBus or similar messaging frameworks.
- Experience with Contentful or similar CMS platforms.
- Exposure to Gov One Login and DfE Sign‑in solutions.
- Experience supporting IT Health Checks and security remediation activities.
- Knowledge of cloud‑native architecture and microservices patterns.
- Experience working on large‑scale public sector digital transformation programmes.
