Join CGI as an Application Support Engineer and help keep business-critical services stable, resilient and performing at their best. You'll take ownership of live service operations, resolving complex issues and protecting service availability while finding smarter ways to prevent disruption before it happens.
In this role, you will take ownership of the day-to-day support and operation of business-critical applications, helping ensure services remain stable, available and performant. You will investigate and resolve incidents and production issues, manage problems, changes and service requests in line with ITIL-aligned processes, and use your Java, Linux and database knowledge to diagnose issues across the application environment. You will also help shape a more proactive and efficient support service.
Working collaboratively with development, infrastructure, client, customer and supplier teams, you will identify recurring issues, strengthen monitoring and introduce automation that removes manual effort and improves resilience. You'll be encouraged to challenge existing approaches, develop practical improvements and share your expertise.
- Provide day-to-day application and service support, maintaining the availability, performance and stability of critical production services.
- Diagnose incidents and production issues using Java code analysis, logs, monitoring data, database queries and operating-system troubleshooting.
- Manage incidents, problems and service requests against agreed SLAs and KPIs, contributing to Major Incident Management and timely service restoration.
- Undertake root cause analysis, identify recurring incident triggers and implement or recommend preventative solutions.
- Use dashboards, alerts, logs and performance information to detect service degradation and enable proactive intervention.
- Develop PowerShell scripts and other operational automation for daily checks, routine activities and repeatable resolution steps.
- Support controlled deployments, releases, configuration updates and production changes, ensuring appropriate assessment and validation.
- Create and maintain runbooks, operational procedures, Confluence content and knowledge articles that strengthen team capability.
- Support service reporting against SLAs, KPIs and operational measures while contributing to Continuous Service Improvement.
You will bring proven experience supporting live, business-critical applications in a production or service operations environment. You should combine strong troubleshooting capabilities with practical knowledge of Java applications and ITIL-aligned service management. You'll be comfortable taking responsibility during service incidents, working within secure enterprise environments and finding creative, sustainable ways to improve operational performance, with opportunities to develop your expertise alongside experienced CGI colleagues.
You should have demonstrable experience in live service, production support or service operations environments. Strong experience supporting Java applications, with the ability to navigate code and trace application behaviour for diagnostic purposes. Good knowledge of Java Servlets and traditional Java architectures, including experience investigating legacy structures such as Data Access Objects (DAO). Practical ITIL-aligned experience across Incident, Problem, Change and Major Incident Management. Proven ability to deliver against SLAs and KPIs within controlled production environments. Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, using logs, monitoring information, database queries and code analysis. Hands-on Linux administration and command-line troubleshooting experience. PowerShell scripting capability, particularly for operational support and automation. Database support experience, preferably involving Oracle. Experience supporting deployments, releases and production changes within established change-management processes. A security-conscious approach, with experience operating within secure and controlled environments. Experience producing operational documentation, including support procedures, runbooks and knowledge articles, ideally using Confluence.
