The Role
As the Forecasting Team Lead within the Trading Desk, you will drive the strategic development and delivery of our forecasting capabilities, empowering traders with actionable insights that optimise and inform trading activities. You will also be expected to champion Forecasting to the wider business, supporting areas such as commercial and finance teams to ensure that they have the forecasting support they need. You will lead a team of analysts in enhancing our forecasting models and systems across Power and Gas, ensuring the highest levels of accuracy, efficiency, and innovation.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the forecasting of demand for our expanding Power and Gas supply portfolios, with additional opportunities to develop renewable generation forecasts for our growing PPA book and wholesale market forecasts to support trading and risk management decisions.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
You will lead, mentor, and develop a team of forecasting analysts, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and collaboration. You will define and implement the team's forecasting roadmap, aligning with the broader trading and business strategy and coordinate forecasting activities across time horizons (intraday to long-term), ensuring consistency, accuracy, and clear communication to stakeholders.
Forecasting & Analysis
You will oversee the production of accurate and timely demand forecasts for Power and Gas portfolios, as well as renewable generation and wholesale market outlooks. You are expected to review and validate forecast outputs, providing quality assurance and identifying opportunities for improvement and translate complex data-driven insights into clear and actionable recommendations for traders and senior management.
Systems & Development
You will drive the development of new forecasting tools and enhancements to existing methodology. You will champion best practices in data modelling, version control, and automation. Finally, you will collaborate with Data and Trading teams to ensure seamless data flow and integration of forecasting systems.
About You
3+ years' experience in energy sector forecasting, with strong attention to detail and analytical accuracy. Strong leadership skills, with experience mentoring and managing analytical teams. Degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g. STEM, Economics, Data Science, or Business Analytics). Extensive experience developing and validating time series forecasting models across power and gas markets. Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience building forecasting tools and automated data workflows. Excellent communication skills, able to clearly present complex forecasting insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
