Why this role matters
We are seeking a strategic B2B Credit Control Leader to drive process improvements, collaborate cross‑functionally and lead team performance to effectively manage the Customer payment journey. You will deliver a strong cashflow and minimise aged debt, alongside enhancing the customer experience. You will be accountable for the development of a high performing, motivated team, and optimising processes through use of our CRM and Billing tools.
What you’ll do
- Leadership & People Development: Lead, coach, and develop the Credit Control team to deliver high‑quality, timely, and effective collections activity. Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and strong team engagement. Conduct structured monthly 1:1s, annual performance reviews, and plan colleague development, ensuring clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Operational & Performance Management: Manage the full customer payment journey, ensuring timely payment of customer balances, effective management of payment methods, and robust escalation of overdue debt. Measure daily operational performance, using KPIs, dashboards, and quality evaluations to drive improvements in effective collection and customer experience. Own the preparation and delivery of weekly, monthly, and month‑end reporting, providing insight, trend analysis, and recommendations to senior leadership. Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure debt‑related customer queries are prioritised and resolved effectively. Work closely with Sales, Client Relationship teams, and Third‑Party Intermediaries to strengthen communication channels and accelerate query resolution. Build a relationship with the Credit Risk team to establish a structured feedback loop, ensuring payment behaviours inform credit decisions and risk strategies. Act as the senior point of escalation for complex, sensitive or Key Accounts.
- Strategic Improvement & Process Optimisation: Identify and lead initiatives to improve processes to enhance cashflow performance and customer experience alongside minimising aged debt. Drive continuous improvement through data‑led decision making, root‑cause analysis, and cross‑departmental collaboration. Support wider business projects that impact the customer payment journey.
What we’re looking for
You’ll have:
- Proven experience at leading and motivating high‑performing B2B Credit Control / Collections teams.
- Commercial awareness, with demonstrated success of managing Key Account customers.
- Experience working with CRM/ERP systems and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Significant understanding of Credit Control processes, cashflow management, and debt recovery best practice.
- A high focus on customer experience.
- Proven ability to engage and influence at all levels.
- Demonstrable experience of leading colleagues through transformation or change.
- A data‑driven mindset with the ability to analyse metrics and translate insights into action.
It’s a bonus if you also have:
- Experience within the Energy Industry / Energy Regulatory knowledge.
- Experience of preparing for Audits.
- Passion for sustainability and the energy transition.
