As a Community Volunteer, you will help the CFDN continue to provide social, emotional, and practical support to people with disabilities and their families. Your contribution helps create safe spaces where members and their families feel included, valued, and supported through your own experience and expertise.
The CFDN is seeking friendly, reliable, and community-minded individuals to support people with disabilities and their families across East London and Essex. This role focuses on helping deliver safe, inclusive, and welcoming activities, events, and community groups that reduce isolation and promote independence, friendship, and wellbeing for people living with disabilities.
Community volunteers may be involved in a range of activities, including:
- Supporting CFDN community groups, clubs, or social activities
- Welcoming members and families at events and activities
- Helping create a friendly, inclusive, and safe environment
- Supporting members to take part in activities where appropriate
- Assisting Group Leads or event coordinators with practical tasks
- Helping with set-up and tidy-up at events or sessions
- Promoting respect, dignity, and inclusion at all times
- Reporting any concerns, incidents, or safeguarding issues in line with CFDN procedures
- Acting as a positive ambassador for the CFDN within the community
Duties will vary depending on the activity and setting and will always be within agreed boundaries. Utilising your direct experience and knowledge (3+ years) in the care, disability, or advocacy sectors to support others. Using IT equipment and systems for reviewing and logging member records, reporting safeguarding or incident concerns, and reviewing policies and procedures.

- Ability to follow guidance, policies, and procedures
- Willingness to undertake training and compliance checks
- 3+ years’ experience in care, disability or advocacy
- Competent in the use of IT systems and equipment
- Experience in safeguarding or the responsibility of reporting safeguarding concerns/completing safeguarding training
- Experience in maintaining and securing confidential information (e.g., client records) and a strong understanding of Data Protection and GDPR
Desirable
- Experience of volunteering or community involvement
- Confidence supporting group activities or events
- Interest in developing further within the charity
- Experience of organising and executing events in the commercial or voluntary sector
Training and Support Provided
- Welcome induction to the charity
- Statutory & mandatory training (e.g., safeguarding, health & safety)
- Ongoing guidance and support from Group Leads or managers
- Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed

- Ongoing learning and development opportunities
Additional Information
- This role is flexible and can work around your availability
- Volunteers must agree to uphold the charity’s values and policies
- Uniform or branded items (e.g., lanyards, t-shirts) may be provided for event use depending on the role
- Volunteers should have 3+ years’ experience supporting individuals with disabilities, as a carer, or experience in advocating for people
- You may be invited to recognition events, awards and supporter gatherings
