Reporting to the Legal Director and working closely with the wider Legal team, the Senior Legal Counsel delivers comprehensive legal support to the Group’s UK and international entities. This includes, but is not limited to, advising on matters relating to the Group’s MGAs and syndicate, drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts, providing commercially sensitive legal guidance to a broad range of stakeholders, and supporting key strategic initiatives across the Group.
As a senior member of the Legal team, the Senior Legal Counsel plays a crucial role in identifying, advising on, and managing the Group’s legal exposures, ensuring these are effectively mitigated in line with the Group’s risk appetite.
About the role
- Assist with a broad range of contentious and non‑contentious legal matters, with a particular focus on supporting the Group’s MGAs and contributing to syndicate‑related work.
- Deliver high‑quality legal advice to the Company and internal stakeholders, offering timely, commercially attuned solutions to complex legal issues.
- Negotiate, draft, and advise on commercial contracts, NDAs, and industry‑specific agreements.
- Promote knowledge sharing across the business and stay up to date with legal and regulatory developments, including delivering clear and engaging training sessions where appropriate.
- Support the Group’s risk management framework, including maintaining the contracts register and other core legal controls.
- Contribute to key Group projects, collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders and the wider Governance team to ensure continued compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
About you
- Qualified solicitor (6+ PQE) with a current certificate to practice English law.
- Experience in the London insurance market; familiarity with Lloyd’s/FCA regulation, data protection, technology contracts and AI is advantageous.
- Proven experience across both contentious and non‑contentious legal matters, with strong technical knowledge of commercial and corporate law.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with stakeholders at all levels, including the Board.
- Commercially minded problem‑solver who pairs strong technical capability with pragmatic, business‑focused judgment.
- Advanced drafting, negotiating and reviewing skills across commercial agreements, including industry‑specific contracts such as Binding Authorities and TOBAs.
- Highly organised team player with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously, build strong relationships, and deliver against deadlines.
