As an Assistant Underwriter, you’ll learn to develop and underwrite profitable business within CFC’s Professions team. You’ll support the team across a variety of areas, including underwriting renewal accounts, building and maintaining broker relationships, supporting new business development and responding to queries from other product line underwriters.
With support from the team, you will consider Professions insurance needs from a holistic perspective by writing multiple classes of insurance; Professional Indemnity (E&O), Commercial Combined, Property and Cyber alongside contributing to wider team projects.
- Respond to enquiries and renewal submissions from brokers in a timely and professional manner, delivering a first-class service to produce quotations within agreed SLAs and authority parameters.
- Explain the features, advantages and benefits of Professions insurance products and coverage enhancements, support product launches and raise awareness of new and existing products.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of internal and external presentations on CFC products, key trends, and emerging exposures.
- Conduct research to develop subject matter expertise and investigate relevant legislation/regulation/compliance issues affecting our target territories and markets.
- Support and contribute to team projects (e.g. enhancements to product offering, launch of new products, systems, policies, and processes etc.).
- Contribute effectively to team performance standards.
- Maintain and update the renewal and prospect list in a timely manner.
- Support the team in marketing our Professions capabilities through existing contacts and new relationships, and over time, attending ad-hoc business trips as required.
- Assist the team with the production of reports and statistics to support the monitoring of team performance.
- General ad-hoc and administrative duties as directed by the professions team leader and other colleagues.
We’re looking for motivated, proactive individuals with a strong work ethic who enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment and contributing to a high‑performing team. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to further develop your technical underwriting expertise alongside your business development skills. We would particularly welcome applications from those with broking experience, or from underwriting assistants / assistant underwriters who are ready to take the next step in their career.
Previous experience within Professional Indemnity or related professions business would be advantageous, along with the ability to build and maintain strong, long‑term relationships with brokers and colleagues across the organisation. You’ll bring strong analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail, while also being comfortable making timely, well‑reasoned decisions. You’ll enjoy working at pace, whilst building meaningful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to support our continued growth.
