Thanks to continued significant organic growth, we have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter to join one of the most established Professional Liability teams in London. The team are a market leader in providing professional liability solutions for SME businesses, as well as a developing book of middle market and larger accounts. As a team of 22, they insure over 15,000 clients, and consider over 50,000 submissions a year.

As one of the largest professional liability teams in London, who focus on protecting US based clients, this is a great opportunity to be exposed to an extensive variety of risks. Whilst professional liability is a core component of coverage, the team's innovative package policies include general liability, cyber and property insurance on one policy form, giving you the ability to gain experience you are unlikely to find elsewhere. Having six unique products, for a range of professional service firms from engineers to contractors to miscellaneous professional firms both in the traditional and emerging sectors, the opportunities to learn and develop are endless.

As an Assistant Underwriter on the US Professions team you’ll learn to develop and underwrite profitable business within CFC’s Professions team. You’ll support the team across a variety of areas, including:

  • Supporting new business development
  • Underwriting renewal accounts
  • Building and maintaining broker relationships
  • Responding to Profession queries from other product line underwriters

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to broker enquiries and renewal submissions, delivering quotations within agreed SLAs and underwriting authority.
  • Promoting the features and benefits of CFC’s Professions products, supporting product launches and market awareness initiatives.
  • Supporting the creation and delivery of internal and external presentations on products, market trends, and emerging risks.
  • Conducting research to build technical expertise and stay informed on relevant regulatory and compliance developments.
  • Contributing to product, system, process, and policy improvement projects.
  • Supporting team performance through effective collaboration and delivery against objectives.
  • Helping grow CFC’s US Professions business by developing broker relationships and supporting marketing initiatives, including occasional US travel.
  • Producing reports and management information to monitor team performance and activity.
  • Providing general administrative and ad hoc support to the wider US Professions team.

We're looking for proactive, motivated individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy contributing to a high-performing team. This role offers the opportunity to further develop both your underwriting and business development skills. We're particularly interested in candidates with a background in either broking or underwriting ready to take the next step in their career.

Experience within Professional Indemnity or related professions classes is highly desirable, alongside the ability to build strong, lasting relationships with brokers and colleagues. You’ll have strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to make sound decisions. Most importantly, you'll enjoy working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to help drive the continued growth of the business.
