The Application Engineer (EUT) is responsible for supporting and maintaining CFC’s internally developed platforms, ensuring high quality delivery of escalated technical support, application investigation, data analysis, and continuous improvement. This role operates at a senior level in capability within Application Operations and acts as a key support to the Application Operations Lead. You will take ownership of complex incidents, provide technical leadership to offshore resources, and ensure continuity of service across business critical systems. You will be expected to operate independently, make informed decisions, and take full ownership of issues through to resolution.

About the role:

  • Own the stability and performance of business-critical applications in a fast-moving, product-led environment.
  • You’ll take the lead on complex incidents, working across Product and Engineering to resolve issues quickly and, more importantly, fix them for good.
  • This role is about moving beyond reactive support — driving smarter operations, better automation, and more resilient systems.
  • Own L2/L3 escalations and critical incidents end-to-end.
  • Lead root cause investigations across key platforms and data.
  • Partner with Product & Engineering to improve system stability and delivery.
  • Drive automation, reduce repeat issues, and improve how we operate.
  • Enable offshore teams and keep delivery moving at pace.

About you:

  • You’re a hands-on problem solver with a product mindset — focused on outcomes, not just fixes.
  • You’re comfortable in complex environments, confident working with data, and always looking to improve how things work.
  • You care about building scalable, reliable systems and delivering a better experience for users.
  • Have strong experience in application support, escalations, and incident management.
  • Be confident with SQL, data investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Have a proven track record of driving improvements and reducing repeat issues.
  • Be comfortable working across Product & Engineering teams.
  • Be proactive, organised, and focused on delivering real impact.

Core Values:

  • Love what you do: We show up each day ready to take on the world. Our passion and intensity set us apart and makes the difference to our colleagues, customers, brokers and carriers.
  • Challenge everything: We’re never afraid to question the way that things are done and we constantly challenge ourselves and others to make things better.
  • Have fun, be good: Insurance is a serious business, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We make it fun to work at CFC, we welcome all viewpoints, and we treat everyone how we would expect to be treated.

How to prepare for a job interview at CFC Underwriting

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
