About this role

BlackRock is a global leader in investment management, risk management, and advisory services to institutional, intermediary, and individual investors around the world. We aim to deliver better financial outcomes for our clients through disciplined investing, rigorous research, and a culture grounded in intellectual curiosity and accountability.

About our Platform

Fundamental Equities invests through style- or sector‑specific, research‑driven strategies, combining the breadth of a global platform with the autonomy of specialist teams. Investment teams operate with discretion within a robust risk framework and are accountable for delivering consistent outperformance.

About our Team

BlackRock's London-based Sector & Thematics equity team is a long‑established specialist platform within Fundamental Equities, focused on natural resources and thematic equity strategies. Founded in 1988, the team manages approximately US$37 billion in predominantly long‑only assets across mining, gold, agriculture, energy and new energy strategies, and has won more than 100 industry awards for investment performance. The team invests globally across the market‑cap spectrum, applying a bottom‑up, high‑conviction investment approach. It is made up of 18 people with over 100 years of combined investment experience and is broadly organised into two specialist investment pods: Materials and Energy / Energy Transition. The investment team includes 11 portfolio managers and analysts. Within this group, five cover mining and gold, two are dedicated to agriculture, and four cover energy and new energy. Portfolio managers are responsible for both fundamental research and portfolio management, supported by analysts who contribute investment ideas, company research and sector insight. Four of the team's portfolio managers have technical backgrounds or relevant industry experience, which is important in natural resources investing, where differentiated views often depend on understanding geology, project quality, reserve life, capital intensity, cost curves, permitting, operational execution and commodity‑cycle dynamics. The team is supported by significant dedicated non‑investor and portfolio management resources, allowing portfolio managers and analysts to remain focused on research, portfolio management and investment debate. These include nine product strategists responsible for client queries and investment communications, a business manager focused on team management priorities and operating discipline, a core portfolio management function that supports the operational aspects of portfolio implementation and oversight, and a portfolio management assistant who provides administrative support to the whole team. The team also benefits from BlackRock's broader Fundamental Equities platform, including risk management, trading, corporate access, technology and global research resources.
