Octavius Finance is working with a specialist investment firm seeking to appoint an Investment Analyst to join its growing investment team.

The firm has a fundamental, bottom-up investment approach, with a focus on identifying high-quality smaller companies across international markets. The investment team operates in a highly research-driven environment, with a strong emphasis on understanding businesses in depth and generating differentiated investment ideas.

The successful candidate will join the team at an exciting stage of its development, with the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of research and contribute directly to the investment process.

The Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for a defined area of coverage, developing deep expertise across a portfolio of companies and contributing to the firm's broader investment views.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Screening a broad universe of international smaller companies to identify attractive investment opportunities
  2. Conducting detailed fundamental research into companies, industries and business models
  3. Undertaking primary research to understand the key drivers of long-term value creation
  4. Meeting company management teams and other industry participants
  5. Developing and presenting differentiated investment views around business quality, growth prospects and valuation
  6. Building and maintaining detailed financial models
  7. Producing high-quality written investment research
  8. Monitoring existing investments and updating investment theses as new information emerges
  9. Contributing to investment discussions and portfolio decision-making
  10. Travelling internationally as required to conduct company and industry research

Role Requirements

  1. 2-4 years' relevant experience in equity research, with buy-side experience strongly preferred.
  2. A strong interest in understanding businesses and identifying the characteristics that drive sustainable competitive advantage
  3. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills
  4. The ability to form, articulate and defend clear investment views
  5. A strong understanding of accounting, financial statements and valuation
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  7. Strong Excel and financial modelling capabilities
  8. Experience using financial databases and research tools is advantageous
  9. The CFA, whilst not strictly required, would be highly advantageous
