JOB PURPOSE
We are seeking a talented and motivated Debt Capital Markets (DCM) Associate 3 / Director to join our dynamic team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across both public and private debt markets for Corporates, mainly public benchmarks and private placements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fixed income markets, credit analysis, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for helping clients optimize their capital structure.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Market Analysis and Research
- Develop and maintain comprehensive market views across public debt, private credit, and/or syndicated leveraged finance markets.
- Create market update slides, including details on capital raised, number of offerings completed, credit metrics, and terms of recent offerings.
- Analyze market trends, macro dynamics, and credit metrics to inform client recommendations.
- Deal Execution
- Lead execution of corporate bond deals for both investment grade and non-investment grade clients.
- Lead transaction marketing and pricing, including investor roadshows and due diligence.
- Support the structuring and execution of private placements and other alternative debt financing solutions.
- Assist in the origination and development of pitch books.
- Financial Modeling and Analysis
- Develop and maintain complex financial models to assess asset values, companies, and securities.
- Prepare debt comparables (comps) presentations, showcasing key metrics such as coupon rates, security types, credit ratings, and financial ratios.
- Conduct scenario analyses to evaluate how different financing structures impact a company's credit profile.
- Client and Investor Relations
- Assist in developing and maintaining strong relationships with corporate, financial, and institutional clients.
- Conduct investor outreach for transaction distribution and relationship management purposes.
- Support senior team members in client meetings and presentations.
- Team
- Assist in the development and training of juniors in the team including both the investment bank and corporate bank in driving collaboration and further integration across products.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Work closely with investment banking teams, corporate banking, corporate syndicate desk, and other product groups to deliver comprehensive financing solutions. Coordinate with ratings agencies to assess potential credit ratings for new issuers. Maintain team databases and tools for market analysis and client management purposes.
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES
As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering, Math, Statistics, Economics, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience in investment banking, capital markets.
- Understanding of debt capital markets, including both public and private debt instruments.
- Excellent financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and financial databases (e.g., Bloomberg, CapIQ).
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- CFA charter holder or willingness to work towards.
