Role
We\’re seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Derivatives Trader to join our Trading team. This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of commodity markets, supporting trade execution and contributing to the development of options modelling, pricing, and trade strategies. As a Junior Derivatives Trader, you\’ll collaborate closely with analysts, risk managers, and our operational team to align strategies and optimise performance across various energy markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor markets to identify trading opportunities in key cross-commodity markets.
• Analyse price trends, market data, and regulatory developments to provide input on trading strategies.
• Assist in executing trades across cross-commodity markets, monitor trade performance to provide input on strategies, and ensure compliance with internal risk and regulatory guidelines.
• Support trade execution by maintaining accurate records, managing trade confirmations, and handling deliveries and settlements in line with contract requirements.
• Assist in the development and implementation of quantitative models for derivatives pricing and trading strategies.
• Conduct preliminary analysis of large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and insights that inform our strategies.
• Perform basic research on financial markets and instruments to support model development and trading decisions.
• Assist in designing and conducting back tests to validate the performance and robustness of models. Support in developing pricing engines to price exotic derivative contracts.
• Daily position reconciling and investigating, identifying and correcting issues.
• Desk support: Trade bookings, trade recaps, produce confirmations.
• Collaborate with analysts, risk managers, and operational teams to align trading strategies while ensuring effective communication with other departments for smooth trading operations.

Ideal Candidate

• A degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Ideally 1-3 years of experience within the commodity markets.
• Relevant coursework or projects that demonstrate a strong foundation in quantitative analysis and programming.
• Experience handling large datasets and conducting quantitative analysis.
• Some experience or course/project work in using data analysis tools & libraries like Python, Panda, NumPy, SciPy.
• Good attention to detail to precisely manage trade confirmations, records, and market flows.
• Ability to identify issues, assess risks, and propose solutions in a structured manner.
• Relevant internships or project experience in quantitative analysis or a related field.
• Experience with machine learning techniques and algorithms.
