Junior Quantity Surveyor in Billingham

Junior Quantity Surveyor in Billingham

Billingham Full-Time On-site
CF Industries

An opportunity for analytical graduates and early-career talent

Good with numbers? Curious about how businesses really spend money? Looking for an opportunity where you can make a real impact?

We are looking for a bright, analytical and motivated individual to join our team as a Junior Quantity Surveyor at our Billingham complex on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract.

You don't need to be a Quantity Surveyor already. You might be a recent graduate in Quantity Surveying, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering or another analytical discipline, or you may already have some early-career experience and be looking for your next challenge.

Previous Quantity Surveying experience is not essential. If you have strong analytical ability, curiosity, a willingness to learn and the confidence to ask questions and challenge constructively, we will provide the training and support you need to develop.

Working closely with our Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will gain practical, hands‑on experience of the commercial management of maintenance, engineering and project activities within a major industrial manufacturing environment.

What makes this role different?

This is not simply a cost‑reporting role.

You will learn how work is planned and delivered, understand what drives costs, challenge assumptions, identify opportunities to improve value and positively influence how money is spent.

The role will involve getting out onto our operational site, where you will see how maintenance and engineering work is actually carried out, speak directly with the people delivering it and understand the activities behind the numbers.

The remainder of your time will be office‑based, where you will analyse costs, interrogate commercial information and use what you have learned in the field to help us make better commercial decisions and achieve value from the work being undertaken.

You will develop practical experience in:

  • analysing contractor costs, estimates and applications for payment;
  • understanding what drives costs and identifying opportunities to improve value;
  • challenging costs and assumptions constructively;
  • supporting tendering, procurement and contractor selection;
  • working directly with engineers, planners, maintenance teams and contractors; and
  • developing strong commercial, contract and cost‑management skills.

You won't be expected to know all of this from day one. We hire for attitude and potential and will help you develop the technical and commercial skills you need to succeed.

What we are looking for

We're particularly interested in people who:

  • enjoy working with numbers and solving problems;
  • are naturally curious and want to understand why something costs what it does;
  • have the confidence to ask questions and challenge assumptions constructively;
  • communicate well and enjoy working with people from different disciplines and backgrounds;
  • want to combine analytical work with practical, hands‑on experience; and
  • take ownership and are motivated to learn and develop.

A degree or equivalent experience in Quantity Surveying or another analytical, financial, commercial or technical discipline would be advantageous, but potential, attitude and analytical ability are more important to us than following a particular career path.
