Ceto Talent is supporting a major transport organisation as they look to appoint an experienced marine safety leader to oversee safety, assurance and compliance across their river operations.
This role sits at the heart of their marine activities and supports the safe running of vessels and terminals along the Thames.
It’s a great opportunity for someone with a solid background in marine legislation, safety management systems, and regulatory engagement, who can also provide clear direction to both operational teams and senior leadership.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Lead marine safety, assurance and compliance across river services
* Act as the Designated Person under the ISM Code
* Make sure all vessels, terminals and operations meet legal, regulatory and internal safety standards
* Develop and maintain the Safety Management System
* Manage internal audit programmes and oversee corrective actions
* Support day-to-day operations with guidance on safety, health, environmental and quality requirements
* Coordinate inspections with authorities such as the MCA and Port of London Authority
* Oversee emergency planning and counter-pollution exercises
* Train staff in safety, auditing and pollution-response requirements
* Maintain safety documentation, emergency plans and performance statistics
* Manage the budget for compliance and HSEQ functions
* Provide line management to the Deputy Designated Person
* Report to senior leadership on ISM compliance and safety performance
What We’re Looking For:
* Strong background in marine safety, compliance and operational assurance
* In-depth knowledge of the ISM Code and maritime legislation
* Experience working with regulatory bodies such as the MCA and PLA
* Ability to develop and improve safety management systems
* Confident leading audits, inspections and emergency-response planning
* Comfortable advising operational teams and senior leadership
* Strong documentation, planning and communication skills
* Experience managing budgets and leading small teams
