Contractors: Negotiable Rate - Outside IR35 Start: As soon as identified We're recruiting a Process Engineer on behalf of a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering major energy, gas transmission and distribution projects.

This newly created role will strengthen the company’s internal process engineering capability and support the design, assessment and delivery of gas and wider energy infrastructure projects.

You will provide specialist chemical and process engineering expertise across feasibility studies, tender development, FEED, detailed design, construction and commissioning.

Projects may include gas transmission and distribution systems, AGIs, pipelines, terminals, hydrogen, biomethane and carbon capture infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop process designs as a Process Engineer for gas transmission, gas distribution and wider energy infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and review Process Flow Diagrams and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams for gas, chemical and process engineering systems.
  • Review process engineering, piping and chemical engineering submissions produced by external designers.
  • Perform process calculations, including mass and energy balances, pressure drop analysis and hydraulic modelling for gas and piping systems.
  • Specify pressure reduction systems, filtration, metering, compressors, valves and process pipework / piping.
  • Support the design of hydrogen, biomethane, carbon capture and other low-carbon gas and energy systems.
  • Undertake process safety assessments and hazard studies across gas, chemical and process systems.
  • Carry out process simulations using appropriate Process Engineer / chemical engineering software.
  • Assess gas system capacity, flow rates, operating pressures and process performance.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation and value engineering across gas and piping systems.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL and Design Risk Assessments for process, gas and chemical engineering projects.
  • Support compliance with COMAH, DSEAR, PSSR and CDM Regulations where applicable.
  • Provide Process Engineer technical input during feasibility studies, FEED and detailed design.
  • Support procurement by preparing technical specifications and evaluating supplier proposals for process, gas and piping equipment.
  • Provide technical process engineering support during construction, commissioning and project handover.
  • Work closely with Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Piping and Control & Instrumentation engineers.
  • Liaise with clients, regulators, suppliers and contractors on gas, process, chemical and piping engineering matters. Experience Required
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering.
  • Experience working as a Process Engineer within gas transmission, gas distribution, process engineering or energy infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of gas processing systems, pressure regulation, metering, process piping and pipeline operations.
  • Understanding of process safety principles, chemical engineering practices and engineering standards.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing PFDs, P&IDs and associated piping / process engineering documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills within process, gas or chemical engineering environments. Desirable Experience
  • Incorporated Engineer or working towards chartership.
  • Experience using Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus or similar process / chemical engineering simulation software.
  • Familiarity with IGEM Standards, National Gas specifications and GDN requirements.
  • Experience in hydrogen, biomethane, LNG, carbon capture, gas processing or industrial chemical / process facilities.
  • Knowledge of pressure equipment design, piping systems and hazardous area classification.
