Contractors: Negotiable Rate - Outside IR35 Start: As soon as identified We're recruiting a 3D Lead CAD Designer on behalf of a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering major energy, gas transmission and distribution projects.

This newly created role will help establish and develop the company’s internal 3D design capability.

You will support a growing portfolio of gas, pipeline, AGI, power and wider energy infrastructure projects, producing accurate, coordinated and buildable design information.

You will work closely with engineers, design coordinators, project teams and site personnel to develop 3D models, engineering drawings and construction details throughout the project lifecycle.

You will also help grow the capabilities of the existing team and support the wider adoption of digital engineering and BIM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed 3D models, engineering drawings and fabrication details using industry-standard CAD software.
  • Develop general arrangement drawings, layouts, sections and construction details.
  • Coordinate models across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Identify and resolve design clashes before construction.
  • Maintain design documentation in accordance with company standards and project requirements.
  • Support engineers in developing innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
  • Prepare drawing packages for client review, procurement and construction.
  • Update models and drawings to reflect design changes and as-built information.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, specifications and BIM requirements.
  • Work within the Common Data Environment to manage controlled design information.
  • Assist with visualisations, construction sequencing and design presentations.
  • Support the implementation of digital engineering and BIM best practices.
  • Liaise with site teams to ensure designs are practical, coordinated and buildable.
  • Mentor and grow the current team’s capabilities.
  • Provide construction sequencing for staged pipeline diversions and pipework clashes within AGIs. Experience Required
  • HNC, HND or Degree in Engineering, CAD, Design or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience using 3D CAD software such as Auto CAD 3D, Civil 3D, Revit, Inventor, Solid Works, Bentley Open Buildings or Open Roads.
  • Experience producing detailed engineering drawings for construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience developing coordinated 3D models across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Understanding of BIM processes and Common Data Environments.
  • Good knowledge of engineering drawing standards and document control procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
  • Experience within gas, pipeline, Oil & Gas or energy infrastructure projects would be highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience mentoring or leading other designers would be beneficial.

This is an excellent opportunity to lead the development of an internal 3D design capability and support projects from tender and conceptual design through to construction and as-built delivery.
