Production Maintenance Technician – Water Industry Location: Portsmouth and surrounding area Salary: £36,000 - £44,000 Contract Type: Perm A leading organisation within the UK water sector is expanding its operational team and is looking to appoint multiple Production Maintenance Technicians. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded maintenance professional to join a well-established business working across critical water treatment and distribution assets. As a Production Maintenance Technician, you will play an important role in keeping essential water infrastructure operating safely, reliably and efficiently. The role is hands-on and varied, combining planned and reactive maintenance with fault finding, asset performance monitoring and continuous improvement. The Role Working closely with the Production Technical Team Leader and wider operational teams, your responsibilities will include: Delivering planned preventative maintenance across a range of water production assets. Maintaining and fault-finding on instrumentation, LV switchgear, dosing equipment, pneumatic systems, valves, pumps and motors. Working across water treatment works, pumping stations and reservoirs. Responding to equipment breakdowns, identifying faults, sourcing spares and carrying out repairs. Reading and interpreting electrical diagrams and technical documentation. Monitoring asset performance and accurately recording maintenance activities. Ensuring equipment is maintained, tested and calibrated to the required standards. Supporting audit, compliance and maintenance documentation requirements. Working collaboratively with operators, engineers, contractors and other departments. Identifying opportunities to improve asset reliability, efficiency and operational performance. Remaining aware of external activities or conditions that could affect water sources, operational reliability or site performance. About You The successful candidate will ideally have: A recognised apprenticeship, NVQ or other relevant technical qualification. Experience in a maintenance, engineering or technical role, ideally within water, utilities, manufacturing, process engineering or a similar environment. Good electrical and mechanical fault-finding capabilities. The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings. Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach. A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn new systems and technologies. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. A strong focus on safety, quality and delivering work to a high standard. GCSEs/Level 4 or above in English and Maths, ideally alongside a science or technical subject. Confidence using smartphones, tablets and computer-based systems for recording and managing maintenance activities. A full UK manual driving licence (Category B). Additional Requirements The successful candidate will be required to undertake a driving assessment and consent to ongoing driving licence checks. The role will also be subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) pre-employment screening, including a basic disclosure check. Depending on the position and project requirements, further security clearance such as CTC or SC may be required. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of the relevant checks.
