We are seeking a skilled Aviation Painter to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing rotor blades and other aviation components to meet engineering specifications and quality standards. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment, as part of a small highly skilled team.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and Painting: Read and interpret engineering drawings and customer instructions to identify tasks for chemical and paint application. Prepare rotor blade surfaces for painting, including sanding, grinding, and buffing polished areas. Mask, unmask, and re-mask areas to protect sensitive components such as windows and other surfaces. Ensure all pre-paint checks have been carried out on the rotor blades. Apply a chromate primer and other paint coatings using spray equipment. Perform touch-up work as required to ensure quality standards. Ensure the paint finishes of the rotor blades meet the expected high quality our customers have come to expect.
- Maintenance and Documentation: Remove strippers, excess paint, and contaminants using water, solvents, and brushes. Document all work performed on Airworthiness paperwork to ensure compliance with regulations. Assist the lead technicians in initial inspections of rotor blades. Assist other employees in their duties within the work area. Support the Stores representative in maintaining workshop consumables and ensuring proper handling readiness of COSHH materials.
- Safety and Equipment Operation: Have an understanding or working knowledge of chromates or similar hazardous materials. Adhere to General Work Requirements and safety protocols, including wearing a respirator when necessary. Frequent exposure to general shop conditions, machine noise, and hot temperatures. Occasional exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Frequent handling of toxic or corrosive chemicals, liquid coatings, solvents, flammables, adhesives, lubricants, composites, and sealants. Prolonged periods of mental and visual attention to detailed work to prevent damage to rotor blades. Working in awkward positions and with vibrating tools and equipment. Job location may be in a non-air-conditioned hangar or work area.
Requirements
- Ability to identify and distinguish between colours.
- Ability to wear a respirator as required.
- Skills in the use of conventional and portable power tools in a modern paint booth.
Qualifications
- Experience in preparation and painting within aviation or equivalent industry preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and customer instructions.
- Proficiency in masking rotor blade surfaces using appropriate materials and methods.
- Skilled in surface preparation techniques such as sanding, grinding, and polishing.
- Familiarity with operating powered lifts and other equipment.
