At CERYN Engineering Ltd, the CAD Technician plays a key role in supporting the design and delivery of strengthening and refurbishment schemes for railway and highway structures. This role centres on producing high-quality engineering drawings that translate design solutions into practical, buildable outcomes for complex infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 2D drawings and, where required, 3D models to support the strengthening, repair, and refurbishment of bridges and associated structures.
- Prepare general arrangement drawings, reinforcement details, steelwork connections, and fabrication drawings in line with design requirements.
- Work alongside engineers to develop and refine design solutions for railway and highway bridge upgrades, including structural strengthening and life‑extension works.
- Interpret engineering sketches to produce clear, accurate design outputs suitable for construction.
- Engage closely with internal engineers, external designers, and contractors to ensure drawings are coordinated and aligned with project requirements.
- Support multidisciplinary projects spanning structural, civil, and asset management disciplines.
- Ensure all design drawings comply with relevant standards (e.g. Eurocodes, Network Rail standards, DMRB where applicable) and client specifications.
- Incorporate health, safety, and constructability considerations into all design outputs.
- Maintain and update drawing registers, manage revisions, and ensure full traceability of design changes.
- Produce as‑built drawings and assist in the close‑out of completed works.
- Review site data, inspection reports, and survey information to inform design/drawing development.
- Attend site visits where required to support understanding of existing structures and constraints.
Skills & Experience
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (essential); familiarity with 3D modelling tools such as Revit is advantageous.
- Experience working on infrastructure projects, particularly bridges within the rail or highways sector.
- Exposure to structural strengthening, refurbishment design, or temporary works is highly desirable.
Qualifications
- HNC, HND, or degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, CAD, or a related discipline.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong appreciation for structural design intent.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a design‑focused environment.
- Well‑organised, proactive, and capable of managing deadlines across multiple projects.
