The Role

The DocOps Engineer will bridge the gap between content and technology within our UX Content team. In this role, you will be a centralised technical expert, responsible for managing our content repositories, optimising documentation workflows, and ensuring the scalability and efficiency of our Help system. You will focus on providing technical support, driving innovation, and automating our processes to enhance quality and consistency.

What you will do in this role

While this position does not involve writing technical documentation, you will use your technical expertise to improve the processes that our technical writers use every day. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting PowerShell scripts to automate complex and time-consuming tasks within our documentation environment.
  • Implementing and maintaining automated documentation pipelines and integrating them with developer toolchains like Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting to the content team for Git-related issues and merge conflicts, particularly in XML files.
  • Maintaining and developing automated testing and checks (e.g., XML formatting, linting) to ensure content consistency, quality, and accessibility.
  • Acting as a technical liaison with IT, DevOps, and Engineering teams.
  • Helping us to evolve our documentation practices by exploring new tools, methodologies, and \"Docs as Code\" principles, and by championing the integration of AI-driven solutions to innovate our documentation pipelines.

What you need to be successful in this role

  • Automation and Scripting: Proficiency in PowerShell is a key requirement. You must have proven experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting scripts to automate complex tasks.
  • Version Control Systems: Advanced knowledge of Git, including branching strategies, merging, and resolving complex merge conflicts. Familiarity with Bitbucket is essential.
  • Web Technologies: A strong understanding of XML, HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: A solid understanding of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) concepts and experience with their application in workflows. Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: The ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to tools, workflows, and content.
  • Process and Workflow: A drive to improve quality and efficiency through technical solutions, familiarity with Jira for workflow management, and an understanding of software development processes.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of content management systems or specialised documentation tools like MadCap Flare.
  • A background in creating or supporting technical documentation within a software development environment.
