We are committed to delivering accurate, culturally sensitive communication across a range of sectors, including legal, education, healthcare, and public services. We are currently seeking qualified freelance British Sign Language Interpreters to join our growing team. The ideal candidates will facilitate effective communication between Deaf and hearing individuals, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and cultural competence.
Responsibilities
- Provide BSL interpretation services across various sectors, including legal, education, healthcare, and public services.
- Interpret in a range of settings with professionalism, clarity, and empathy.
- Ensure clear, culturally competent communication that respects the needs of all parties.
- Collaborate with teams to support inclusive and accessible services.
- Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics, and professional conduct.
- Manage scheduling and availability through our internal system.
You will be
- Proficient in interpreting spoken English into British Sign Language (BSL) and vice versa.
- Comfortable working in diverse environments such as meetings, training sessions, interviews, legal proceedings, classroom settings, and healthcare appointments.
- Able to convey complex, sensitive, and sometimes emotional content accurately and with cultural awareness.
- Skilled in preparing for assignments by reviewing relevant information and liaising with clients or professionals as needed.
- Capable of maintaining impartiality and clear professional boundaries, even in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
- Committed to promoting equal access and inclusive communication for Deaf clients and colleagues.
Requirements
- Registered with NRCPD or SRLPDC.
- Proven experience interpreting in legal, educational, healthcare, or related settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
