We currently have a vacancy for a qualified or part qualified accountant to join our team as a Tax Accountant. This is a full-time, permanent role. It can be primarily based either from our office in Larbert or our office in Birchwood, however there will be opportunity to work remotely from home two days a week. This role provides an excellent opportunity within the UK’s largest independent retailer of fuels and lubricants. The role is part of the Tax team and reports directly to the Head of Tax.
You will have responsibility for ensuring that the company meets its compliance obligations in respect of tax, in particular its Registered Dealers in Controlled Oils (‘RDCO’) compliance obligations (full training will be provided), which are central to the operation of the business.
Responsibilities of the Tax Accountant role include:
- Assisting with the preparation, review and submission of a number of tax returns. This will include VAT, Duty, RDCO, Plastic Packaging Tax, Construction Industry Scheme to provide cover for all of the regular tasks within the team.
- Assisting with the preparation and submission of the PAYE Settlement Agreement return.
- Assisting with the preparation of corporation tax provisions and collating the information required by external advisers to prepare and submit the corporation tax returns.
- Identifying and escalating any compliance risks and opportunities.
- Identifying where training is required and helping to deliver this to the business.
- Being a key support for the business on tax queries.
- Working with the Head of Tax on ad hoc projects.
Experience desired for the position of Tax Accountant includes:
- Qualified Accountant or Tax Advisor (part qualified will be considered).
- Experience in indirect tax and duties is desirable.
- Experience or awareness of Corporate Tax.
- Critical thinking skills to interrogate data and processes to improve the control environment.
- Strong communications skills required to challenge and elevate issues where appropriate.
- Ability to manage a variety of different projects.
- Intermediate Excel skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Ability to interact with senior management.
