About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Automation Team Lead to oversee the operational performance, support, and continuous improvement of our Robotic Process Automation (RPA) estate. This is a leadership role responsible for ensuring the smooth running of business-critical automations, maintaining 98%+ uptime, managing a team of Automation Analysts, and driving the adoption of new automation opportunities across the organisation. Working closely with the Head of Automation, business stakeholders, IT teams, developers, and external support partners, you will play a pivotal role in scaling automation capabilities, supporting digital transformation initiatives, and delivering measurable business value.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation Operations & Support
- Lead the day-to-day operation of automation processes, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Monitor bot activity, performance metrics, incidents, and system health.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and coordinate resolution of automation issues and outages.
- Act as the escalation point for complex automation support issues.
- Ensure automation uptime targets of 98%+ are consistently achieved.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of Automation Analysts.
- Allocate workloads and manage shift coverage across a 24/7 operational environment.
- Promote best practices, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
- Build and maintain team capability across automation technologies and business processes.
- Automation Strategy & Continuous Improvement
- Support the identification, assessment, and prioritisation of new automation opportunities.
- Engage with business stakeholders to understand challenges and identify automation solutions.
- Drive adoption of automation technologies to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Identify technical debt, stability concerns, and opportunities for optimisation.
- Support hyperautomation initiatives and AI integration opportunities.
- Change, Release & Environment Management
- Manage bot releases, scheduling changes, and production deployments.
- Ensure effective change control and version management practices.
- Coordinate testing, UAT, and production releases.
- Maintain strict separation between development, test, and production environments.
- Liaise with wider IT and automation teams to minimise disruption from system changes.
- Project Delivery & Testing
- Coordinate installation, testing, and commissioning of new automations.
- Develop and review test scripts covering all business scenarios.
- Manage UAT activities and defect resolution with stakeholders and support partners.
- Validate Process Definition Documents (PDDs) and technical designs.
- Ensure solutions meet business requirements before deployment approval.
- Stakeholder Management
- Act as the operational liaison between business users, IT teams, developers, and the Automation Centre of Excellence.
- Communicate incidents, performance updates, releases, and change impacts.
- Support demand intake, prioritisation discussions, and governance activities.
- Build strong relationships across multiple business functions.
- Governance & Reporting
- Generate regular reporting on automation performance, uptime, benefits, efficiency gains, cost savings, and error reduction.
- Maintain automation documentation, knowledge bases, support procedures, and incident logs.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the ongoing maturity of the Automation Centre of Excellence.
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience in a Team Lead, Supervisor, or Automation Leadership role.
- Strong experience supporting and managing Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions.
- Experience delivering cross-functional automation projects.
- Proven ability to manage incidents, releases, testing, and operational support activities.
- Experience working within software development and delivery lifecycles.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Technical Knowledge
- Experience with one or more of:
- Blue Prism
- Cloud Microsoft Power Automate
- Dynamics 365 (D365)
- APIs and system integrations
- Workflow automation technologies
- Experience with CODAS or similar enterprise operational systems would be advantageous.
