Certain Advantage is partnering with a key client to recruit a Principal Electrical Engineer. You will be acting as the shipyard technical authority and discipline lead for electrical, automation, control, navigation/communication and integration-related systems across assigned vessel projects.
What will you be doing?
- Own electrical engineering strategy, standards, governance, resourcing and performance for the shipyard electrical function.
- Review, challenge and approve outsourced electrical designs for compliance, safety, buildability, maintainability, material availability and production readiness.
- Lead electrical input to design gate, maturity, constructability and production readiness reviews prior to release to build.
- Ensure compliance with Classification Society rules, Flag State, SOLAS, IMO, IEC/marine electrical standards, customer specs and shipyard QA procedures.
- Serve as primary technical interface with Class, Flag, client representatives, design houses and major vendors on electrical/automation matters.
- Lead review of SLDs, load balance, short-circuit/coordination studies, cable schedules/routing, penetrations/MCTs, equipment layouts, schematics, terminations and interface control documents.
A couple of things you should know:
- Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical, Marine Electrical or related discipline.
- Significant senior experience in shipyard/marine new-build, retrofit, offshore, naval, ferry, commercial vessel or complex industrial build environments.
- Strong practical knowledge of marine electrical systems: generation, main/emergency distribution, switchboards, transformers, UPS, batteries, shore supply, propulsion drives, motors, automation, PMS, alarm/monitoring, nav/comms and safety-critical systems.
- Proven experience supporting vessel build, electrical installation, integration, testing, commissioning, harbour/sea trials and delivery.
- Working knowledge of marine regulatory frameworks: Class rules, Flag State, SOLAS, IMO and relevant IEC/marine electrical standards.
- Able to review/interpret electrical schematics, SLDs, load studies, cable schedules, termination drawings, equipment layouts, system diagrams, specs and vendor documents.
During an interview, you may be asked about:
- Your experience managing outsourced design houses, vendor deliverables, TQs, design reviews and Class/Flag comments through to close.
- Your experience in supporting procurement with technical specs, vendor document review, bid evaluation, long-lead identification, FAT requirements and technical acceptance of major electrical equipment.
