Certain Advantage is partnering with a key client to recruit a Mechanical Handling Engineer. Youll support mechanical handling and building services projects across nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operation of cranes, lifting equipment, and maintenance assets.
What will you be doing?
  • Support the Mechanical Engineering Lead with design, maintenance, and modification of mechanical handling systems.
  • Scope and deliver mechanical designs and upgrades across the full project lifecycle.
  • Maintain technical documentation, drawings, and compliance records.
  • Collaborate across disciplines during installation, commissioning, and testing phases.
  • Provide technical input to risk assessments and progress reports.

A couple of things you should know:

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (Masters or CEng preferred).
  • 3+ years experience in a regulated industry (nuclear, defence, maritime, infrastructure, or oil & gas).
  • Knowledge of cranes, lifting systems, and mechanical building services.
  • Skilled in mechanical design, FEA, and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

During an interview, you may be asked about:

  • Your experience of cranes/lifting equipment and crane operations, especially safety critical and safety related systems.
  • Your knowledge of electrical/mechanical/hydraulic systems as typical to cranes and hauling equipment
  • Knowledge of mechanical building services, including HVAC, compressed air, water systems and thermal/fluid systems
