Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Cashier to join a busy and supportive finance team based in Edinburgh. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal finance professional or someone with strong accounts experience looking to specialise within the legal sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and compliant operation of the firms financial processes, in line with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately allocate and post outlays to client matters in a timely manner
- Process and record all incoming funds, including banking of cheques and electronic receipts
- Manage and monitor outstanding fees, proactively liaising with third parties to ensure prompt recovery
- Execute electronic payments through online banking systems, ensuring accuracy and appropriate authorisation at all times
- Review and verify fee earners payment requests, identifying discrepancies and returning for correction where necessary
- Check and reconcile expense accounts, ensuring all entries are accurate and supported by appropriate documentation
- Process monthly payments to third parties, including medical experts, motor engineering firms, and other suppliers
- Assist with bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are recorded in accordance with internal controls
- Maintain compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks, including Solicitors Accounts Rules
- Support the wider finance team with ad hoc duties and reporting as required
Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience in a Legal Cashier or legal finance role is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of legal accounting procedures and regulatory requirements preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with internal stakeholders and external parties
- Proficiency in finance systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
