Certain Advantage is partnering with a key client to recruit a Principal Design Engineer .
You will lead a design team, ensuring effective handover from simulation to design and technical leadership of continuous improvement initiatives for non-conformance.
What will you be doing?
- Lead and line manage the team, coordinating workloads, resolving issues, and ensuring delivery against timescales, KPIs, and customer requirements.
- Develop team capability through performance management and targeted support to maintain high standards.
- Lead complex, high-value projects, delivering innovative, technically advanced solutions and providing expert guidance.
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, making informed decisions within organisational and client frameworks.
- Drive quality in simulation deliverables and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the delivery stream.
- Manage non-conformance, implementing corrective actions and process improvements.
- Contribute to engineering strategy, best practices, and process development to enhance operational performance.
- Define and capture design requirements, ensuring clarity and alignment throughout delivery.
- Lead internal and external design reviews, securing client acceptance of designs.
- Provide expert technical support in mechanical engineering across projects.
A couple of things you should know
- Proficient in the design of transmission systems, gears, and gearboxes
- Experienced in producing mechanical specifications, scopes of work, calculations, drawings, and schedules.
- Analyse and resolve complex design issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
- Iterate and refine designs through testing and analysis to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Manage and track design changes to existing products.
- Prepare technical reports and present progress to project teams and clients.
- Working knowledge of key design tools, including Solid Edge, Siemens NX, and Auto CAD.
During an interview, you may be asked about
- Your knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e. g., AS9100, ISO 9001)
