A well-established professional services organisation is looking to appoint a Graduate / Trainee Trust Accountant to join its in-house Trust, Executry and Charity Accounting team, which supports a broader private client and tax-focused function. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or someone with up to 12 years experience in accounting or finance who is keen to develop specialist expertise in trust, executry and charity accounting. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the preparation of accounts for trusts, executries and charitable entities under the guidance of senior team members
- Assisting with periodic accounting work from initial set-up through to completion
- Helping prepare trust accounts across a range of structures, including life interest, discretionary, bare and multi-fund trusts
- Assisting with reconciliations of trust cash accounts and asset registers
- Supporting liaison with internal or external tax advisers regarding tax retentions and trust tax positions
- Assisting with executry accounting work, ranging from straightforward to more complex estates as experience develops
- Working closely with internal legal, tax and accounting teams, as well as external advisers and investment managers
- Maintaining high standards of accuracy, organisation and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information
- Accurately recording time and supporting delivery of work within agreed deadlines
- As experience and confidence grow, the role will gradually offer greater ownership of accounting tasks, exposure to more complex trust and executry work, and opportunities to contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline or up to 12 years relevant experience
- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
- Well-organised with the ability to manage tasks and deadlines effectively
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Professional approach to confidentiality and data handling
Desirable:
- Any exposure to trust, executry, legal or professional services accounting
- Experience in a professional services or client-facing environment
- Interest in developing a long-term career in specialist or private client accounting
- Willingness to undertake relevant professional or specialist training
