A leading UK legal firm is seeking a Tax Compliance Manager to join its top-tier Private Wealth & Tax team in Edinburgh. This is a strong leadership opportunity within one of Scotland's most highly respected private client practices, supporting high-net-worth individuals, trusts and estates while overseeing a skilled compliance team.

You will manage a broad portfolio, provide clear and pragmatic tax guidance, and work closely with legal and advisory specialists across the firm. The role blends hands-on technical work with team leadership and client management, helping maintain the team's reputation for exceptional service and practical, commercially minded advice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Tax Compliance Team, supervising three assistants and ensuring timely, accurate delivery of all work.
  • Review personal tax compliance across individuals, trusts, estates and charities, maintaining high technical standards.
  • Provide clear, expert advice on tax returns, liabilities, claims and elections.
  • Ensure all submissions to HMRC meet statutory deadlines through strong controls and efficient processes.
  • Work closely with senior tax leaders to manage workflow and maintain a smooth compliance operation.
  • Oversee capital gains tax reporting for residential property transactions.
  • Build strong client relationships, explaining complex issues simply and supporting clients through sensitive matters.
  • Manage billing processes and ensure effective use of internal systems.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
  • Support wider team initiatives, knowledge sharing and occasional business development.
About You

You will be a tax professional with strong personal tax compliance expertise, ideally gained within an accountancy practice, professional services firm or private client environment.

Essential Experience
  • Recent tax compliance experience, ideally including trusts and estates.
  • Experience advising clients on tax returns and tax liabilities.
  • Familiarity with tax software and HMRC online systems.
  • Strong organisation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with high-value private clients.
  • Excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy.
  • A proactive mindset with an interest in expanding technical tax knowledge.
