Workshop Supervisor Derby Full Time Are you an experienced mechanical leader with a proven track record of driving performance, quality, and a proactive safety culture on the shop floor? This role is on a permanent basis and is primarily site-based, leading the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced rail production and refurbishment facility. Are you a Workshop Supervisor with a background in Rail, Heavy Engineering, or Heavy Industrial environments, looking for a pivotal role driving production, safety, and operational excellence, for a growing business which promotes ongoing development? This is an excellent opportunity to join a business with a strong pipeline of work, where you’ll have real ownership over site performance, continuous improvement initiatives, and a "right first time" production culture. This role is on a permanent basis and is primarily site-based, leading the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced rail production and refurbishment facility. Oversee daily workflow across vehicle maintenance, overhaul, and production tasks, ensuring all activities stick tightly to master schedules. Conduct daily shift briefings, toolbox talks, and manage on-the-job mentoring. Ensure all tasks strictly follow risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), carry out behavioral observations, and oversee safe lifting equipment operations. Guarantee all completed work meets rigid rail technical specifications. Manage non-conformances, carry out strict quality inspections, and lead continuous process improvements. Ensure all team training matrices and competency logs are fully compliant with rail industry regulatory standards. A relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent time-served apprenticeship). A solid track record as a Supervisor, Team Leader, or Shift Manager within a rail maintenance, rolling stock overhaul, or heavy engineering environment. Strong, practical familiarity with rail vehicle mechanical/electrical components, production schedules, or bogie/vehicle overhaul processes.
