World Class Defence Organisation based in Bristol is currently looking to recruit a C++ Software Engineer (with QT) subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract, with very likely extension. The role will be onsite 4 days per week (Monday to Thursday).

Rate: £65.00 per hour. Overtime Rate: Hours worked over the standard 37 hours per week will be paid at ‘time and a quarter’.

Location: Bristol. Hybrid / Remote working: The role will be onsite 4 days per week.

Duration: 12 Months with very likely extension. Contracts are often ongoing and long-term thereafter.

IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella).

Interview process: One stage video interview.

Overview of department: Our team, at our Bristol facility, develop solutions for the next generation of Air Defence Systems; developing evolving products whilst maintaining our enviable reputation for safety, performance and dependability.

Responsibilities:

  • To produce a software Console product, replacing an existing version with better software architecture making the product more maintainable and verifiable going forward. This is not an update, but a remake – this is estimated to a minimum of 12 month’s work.
  • The task is primarily an independent solo task, but based within a team for support/input and to ensure that the resulting product operates within the intended system.

Skillset/experience required:

  • A strong background in software engineering, its realisation and system wide impact.
  • Experience of working in C++ and QT.
  • Collaborative, open approach to application development and have the ability to maintain momentum during development.
  • Experience of working across the entire software development process from engaging with requirement authorities to automated proving, supported with effective documentation.
  • Experience of new tools, techniques and approaches that might enable us to evolve our processes to improve our efficiency and sustainability.
  • Experience in other languages such as Ada, QT.
  • Knowledge of DDS and multi-threaded applications.
  • Knowledge of standards such as DefStan 00-55, DO-178C or IEC61508 and restricted coding standards such as MISRA C++.
