The Senior Facilities Project Engineer is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of a wide range of facilities-related projects across the organisation, with a strong focus on building services, infrastructure upgrades, and minor to medium capital works. The role ensures all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with statutory, safety, and operational requirements, playing a vital part in maintaining business continuity, supporting operational excellence, and driving continuous improvement across the estate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and delivering facilities and building services projects from initial concept through to completion.
- Managing external contractors, consultants, and suppliers in line with established contractor management and health and safety procedures.
- Preparing project scopes, specifications, cost estimates, and programmes.
- Ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and best practice, including CDM regulations, health and safety requirements, and building regulations.
- Coordinating closely with internal stakeholders to minimise operational disruption.
- Managing project budgets and monitoring costs, and reporting on progress, risks, and issues.
- Overseeing commissioning, handover, and the preparation of essential documentation such as O&M manuals and as-built information.
- Proactively identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, sustainability, and asset lifecycle performance.
Knowledge and skills required for the role:
- Relevant engineering, project management or facilities-related qualifications.
- Professional membership or working towards membership of a relevant body (e.g. IWFM, CIBSE, IET, or similar).
- Recognised health & safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely) desirable.
- Proven experience delivering Facilities or building services projects in a commercial, industrial, or scientific environment.
- Strong understanding of building services systems (mechanical, electrical, and fabric).
- Sound working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and contractor management requirements.
- Experience managing contractors, consultants, and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise effectively.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Competent in project reporting, cost control, and documentation management.
