Ceres Power is a global leader in solid oxide technology, driving the clean energy revolution. Our steel-supported fuel cell and electrolyser technology gives partners a decade of development advantage—accelerating innovation in power generation, green hydrogen, and distributed power solutions for data centres. Trusted by some of the world’s most progressive companies, our proven designs deliver efficient, low-cost solutions backed by over 5 million test hours. At Ceres, innovation is in our DNA. Join us and be part of a world-class team making a positive impact on the planet.

Purpose of the role: The role sits within our Systems Engineering Department, supporting core technology development at both component and stack level, demonstrating system-level technology, developing and exploiting system IP, and working collaboratively with our global partners to industrialise product systems. Our Systems Engineers work across internal and customer-facing projects, taking responsibility for defining requirements and verification plans for Ceres’ stacks and systems. They are involved in the design of fuel cell and electrolysis systems from individual component level through to complete system design, as well as supporting the integration and deployment of these systems into industrial environments.

The position will work closely with global partners to understand the key drivers, requirements and specifications for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Systems and Solid Oxide Electrolyser Systems, while providing technical leadership across tasks and work packages. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing system architectures to meet customer product requirements
  • Engaging with discipline heads, senior engineers and project management to support requirements, interfaces, verification and validation activities
  • Using risk mitigation tools such as FMEAs to track and communicate project risk
  • Supporting verification and validation plans for systems and subsystems, including test planning, execution and data analysis
  • Supporting new process design, including component specification and selection, process calculations, mass and energy balance diagrams, the application of relevant industry standards and HAZOP studies
  • Resolving technical issues and clearly communicating and documenting solutions, outcomes and issue-resolution activities
  • Providing plans and estimates for systems engineering activities
  • Maintaining awareness of the IP landscape and contributing to the creation and support of new IP
  • Applying and understanding established systems engineering processes and procedures

Knowledge and skills required for the role:

  • BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng in Engineering discipline or similar
  • Awareness of basic chemical reactions occurring within a fuel cell or water electrolysis process
  • Awareness of thermo-fluids fundamentals
  • Interpretation of test results, with understanding of measurement techniques, data acquisition and investigation
  • Experience in developing and verifying system designs, using a combination of virtual and physical test methods
  • Awareness of control complexities, in particular the impact on system design
  • Creative problem solving, individually and as part of a team
  • Experience with issue resolution tools and techniques (e.g. Root Cause Analysis, 8D)
  • Awareness in verification and validation definition and planning
  • A curious, self-starter and independent worker, who can also integrate with a team and deliver what is requested
