Purpose of the role

The Maintenance Engineer plays a critical role in supporting and developing the company’s ink, cell and stack manufacturing processes and associated equipment. The role is responsible for ensuring the ongoing reliability, efficiency, and performance of production assets, while also supporting the development, installation, and commissioning of new processes and equipment. Working across both planned and reactive maintenance activities, the role encompasses the delivery of a robust planned preventative maintenance programme, the effective resolution of equipment breakdowns, and the coordination of service visits to ensure minimal disruption to operations.

The engineer will take ownership of managing critical spare parts stock to maintain operational continuity and reduce downtime risks. A key aspect of the position is the use of machine data and performance metrics to identify trends, diagnose issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This includes implementing modifications and upgrades to improve equipment performance, enhance process efficiency, and support the evolving manufacturing environment.

The role also involves managing and coordinating external contractors and suppliers, ensuring that work is carried out to the required standards and that all equipment is maintained in the best possible condition. In addition, the Manufacturing Maintenance Engineer is expected to remain up to date with emerging technologies, industry developments, and new products, applying this knowledge to continuously improve manufacturing capability and equipment performance.

Knowledge and skills required for the role

  • Engineering Qualification or several years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experienced using CMMS
  • Experience of fault finding in the following areas:
    • PLC Based Equipment
    • Mechanical/Electrical Equipment
    • Pneumatics/Hydraulics
  • Permits to Work and RAMS experience
