As a Personal Assistant working directly for the cared for person, you'll play a key role in helping someone live comfortably, safely, and with dignity in their own home. Your support will make a real difference to their everyday wellbeing and independence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing respectful personal care, such as assistance with washing, dressing, oral care, showering, and toileting.
  • Creating a safe and comfortable environment by helping with light household tasks, particularly keeping the area around the bed clear, organised, and within easy reach.
  • Supporting comfort and wellbeing, including help with treatments and preparing hot water bottles for pain relief.
  • Encouraging independence and enjoyment by supporting the client to spend quality time outside the home, including helping them dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Sharing in meaningful activities and hobbies such as gardening and feeding the birds.
  • Accompanying the client on local outings to wheelchair-accessible locations, with opportunities to travel further as confidence and safety allow.
  • Responding flexibly to reasonable requests, adapting support to meet the client’s changing needs.

This role offers the chance to build a meaningful one-to-one relationship and see the real impact of your support every day. You'll be helping someone maintain their independence, comfort, and dignity while enabling them to enjoy the things that matter most to them - from getting outdoors to spending time on their hobbies.

No two days are the same, and the small moments truly count: helping someone feel comfortable, safe, and cared for, or supporting them to enjoy a change of scenery and fresh air. If you're kind, patient, and enjoy making a positive difference in someone's life, this role is both fulfilling and deeply appreciated.

Experience in care is helpful but not essential - a caring attitude, good communication, and a willingness to learn are just as important.

Qualifications

  • Compassionate and respectful, with a strong sense of empathy and dignity for others.
  • Patient and understanding, especially when supporting someone with daily personal care.
  • Dependable and trustworthy, able to work one-to-one and follow guidance carefully.
  • Friendly and positive, enjoying conversation and helping someone feel comfortable and valued.
  • Observant and safety-aware, able to notice changes and keep the environment safe.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to the client's needs as they change.
  • Happy to support both practical tasks and social activities, including outings and hobbies.
