A committed and flexible Personal Assistant is required to provide support to a young man with learning disabilities. Support is required as he gets a little anxious in new situations, to move from one place or situation into a new one, including wet from dry, new tastes, and new situations. However, once he is there, he is ok. As his PA, you must be able to help him develop some interests independent of his family and learn life skills like bus travel. He enjoys being with friends and hanging out, likes walks and books, is happy outdoors, and enjoys nature. The hours are to be worked flexibly as required and agreed in advance. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme. The PA must have own transport and a full, clean driving licence.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure service user is safe in his environment.
- Never leave him unattended.
- Encourage him to take part in activities.
- Provide support and guidance to develop independence skills.
- Assist him to attend social activities.
- Keep his family updated on activities or concerns.
- Carry out any other reasonable requests that the employer may make from time to time.
Contract/Requirements:
This vacancy is being advertised on behalf of an individual employer. You will be employed by that individual and not Ceredigion County Council. If requested by the employer, two satisfactory references must be provided. This post is subject to a trial period of 1 month and a probationary period of up to 6 months. Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4 weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement. You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences. You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
