Scope:
Provide hands‑on facilities support across the site, completing small tasks to maintain a safe, clean and well‑presented workplace. The role covers minor repairs and basic maintenance, grounds management, 5S/housekeeping support, and coordination of small works with contractors as needed.
Role Purpose:
The Facilities Associate supports day‑to‑day site upkeep by completing practical, hands‑on tasks that keep facilities safe, compliant and in good working order. Reporting to the Industrial Engineer, the role responds to minor defects and requests, completes planned small works, supports grounds management and housekeeping standards, and helps coordinate external contractors for specialist tasks. The Facilities Associate takes pride in delivering a tidy, safe environment and provides friendly, timely support to internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grounds management: Maintain external areas, including litter picking, basic landscaping and weed control within capability, tidiness of paths and car parks, and signage visibility; report any hazards promptly.
- Minor repairs & handyperson tasks: Complete small repairs and basic maintenance such as door furniture, minor patching, basic painting and touch‑ups, shelving, fixtures, sealant and simple replacements safely and tidily.
- Housekeeping & 5S support: Address minor defects, maintain storage areas, and assist with 5S actions and audits to support site standards.
- Work request management: Receive and triage facilities requests, plan and complete tasks, raise and close work requests in agreed systems, and keep requesters updated.
- Safety first: Follow site safety rules, complete risk assessments for tasks, use correct PPE, and apply safe systems of work, including isolation/LOTO where trained and authorised.
- Basic inspections & planned checks: Carry out routine visual checks and basic planned checks such as fire door condition, eyewash stations, emergency exits and routes, lighting, doors, walkways, minor leaks, signage and spill kits, and raise issues requiring specialist maintenance.
- Contractor coordination: Support contractor visits by preparing access, escorting where required, ensuring work areas are left safe and tidy, and reporting any issues to the Industrial Engineer.
- Moves and small installations: Assist with moving furniture and equipment, minor assembly and installation tasks, and preparing areas for projects, audits or visitors.
- Waste & recycling support: Support segregation and housekeeping around waste and recycling areas; report any issues with skips, bins or collections.
Key Measures of Success (KPIs):
- Safety: zero harm; safe completion of tasks; timely reporting of hazards and near‑misses.
- Service: response time to facilities requests; tasks completed within agreed timescales and to expected quality.
- Planned checks: fire door and eyewash checks completed on schedule; issues recorded and escalated promptly.
- Site standards: improvements in housekeeping and 5S audit scores; defects identified and resolved.
- Grounds & presentation: external areas maintained to agreed standards; seasonal tasks completed as planned.
- Documentation: accurate work request updates and close‑outs; clear escalation of issues requiring specialist support.
- Stakeholder satisfaction: positive feedback from internal teams on responsiveness and professionalism.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Practical experience completing general facilities, maintenance, or handyperson tasks in a workplace, industrial or commercial environment.
- Good awareness of safe working practices, including manual handling, working at height (where trained), and safe use of basic tools.
- Ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload and respond to urgent requests appropriately.
- A tidy, methodical approach with pride in site presentation, housekeeping and 5S standards.
- Good communication skills and a helpful, customer‑focused attitude with internal teams and contractors.
- Basic IT skills to log and update work requests (training can be provided).
- NVQ Level 2–3 (or equivalent experience) in a practical trade or facilities/maintenance discipline such as maintenance operations, building maintenance, carpentry, joinery, plumbing or decorating.
- Basic safety qualification or awareness training such as IOSH Working Safely desirable.
- Training or competence for relevant tasks where required, e.g., PASMA, steps and ladders, manual handling and abrasive wheels, desirable.
Working Conditions:
This role operates in a food manufacturing environment with regular time on the factory floor and around external areas. The role may involve noise, dust (grain), temperature variation, outdoor work in different weather, and manual handling. Flexibility is required to respond to urgent site issues and support business needs.
