About the role

As a Senior Product Designer at Cera, you’ll join a tight-knit, experienced team operating at the intersection of human-centered design and AI-native development. We're reimagining how we work as a design team, embracing AI across everything from early prototyping to agentic workflows. Your users are carers, branch staff, clients and families — people whose working lives, care and wellbeing are directly shaped by the quality of what we build. This role will focus on our workforce management products that enable us to achieve our scale. We employ thousands of carers across the UK, and the tools our carers and branch staff rely on to find work, stay compliant and build a sustainable career are some of the most important surfaces we own. You’ll lead the design strategy for this area, collaborating across a complex ecosystem of tech and operations to leverage AI in ways that proactively improve care outcomes.

About you

  • You've designed complex operational software, ideally in workforce management, HR tech, scheduling, marketplaces, logistics or similar domains where constraints, real-world logistics and human preferences all collide.
  • You have a considered point of view on AI in product: agent UX, automated recommendations, trust and interpretability, graceful failure, and knowing when to leave AI out entirely.
  • You're fluent with AI tools and reach for them naturally across your workflow, using them to think through problems, explore possibilities and make ideas tangible to get meaningful feedback quickly.
  • You can finesse the details in Figma or AI-assisted coding tools to communicate design intent with precision and clarity.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a strong ability to partner with cross-functional teams, including Product Managers, engineers, QA, and clinical teams.
  • Strong research and analysis skills.
  • Comfortable planning and leading discovery that deepens understanding and informs decision making.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinker with a strong product mindset, with the ability to balance pragmatic solutions with visionary design.
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining design systems, with knowledge of accessibility best practices (e.g., WCAG).
  • A data-driven approach to design, leveraging insights to iterate and measure impact.
  • Advocate for quality but know when to be pragmatic to get projects over the finish line and into the hands of our users.
  • Exceptional storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to present designs and rationale clearly to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to our larger design efforts to improve quality and ensure a consistent, efficient, usable and beautiful experience across all products.
  • Experience facilitating team and stakeholder sessions to work through complex requirements and problem solving.
  • Self-motivation and adaptability, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design process, including user research, discovery, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, and delivering polished designs for development and implementation.
  • Prototype rapidly with LLMs and modern AI tooling.
  • Bring functional prototypes (not just mockups) into research sessions and engineering discussions.
  • Collaborate with PMs, engineers, data and ML teams, and operations staff to shape product vision and deliver measurable impact on retention, fill rate, compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Plan and run generative and evaluative research with carers and operations staff, including in the field, and including structured evaluation of AI behaviour with real users.
  • Design for trust and safety. Make AI confidence, sources and override paths visible parts of the experience, especially where decisions affect a carer's pay, hours or career.
  • Ensure high standards by providing high-quality engineering hand-off and design QA.
  • Drive continuous iteration of designs based on user feedback, analytics, and testing insights.
  • Maintain and evolve our design system, including coherent patterns for AI-native components.
  • Plan and conduct generative and evaluative research that deepens understanding and informs decision making.
  • Communicate design concepts and outcomes through compelling storytelling to stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Contribute to our larger design efforts to improve quality and ensure a consistent, efficient, usable and beautiful experience across all products.
