A leading professional services provider is looking for a GCR Tax Manager to manage their clients in the asset management sector, including hedge funds, debt funds, private equity funds, and real estate funds.

The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing PE fund US state tax compliance projects, considering risk, operational, and tax technical elements. This includes carrying out research on US state tax legislation and explaining its effects to asset management clients. The right person will also coach junior staff members (UK and US) and coordinate multiple teams’ schedules and milestones.

Skills and attributes for success:

  • Proficiency in US state & local taxation.
  • A solid understanding of state tax concepts (e.g., nexus, state apportionment, unitary filings, fund of fund reporting, state tax withholding).
  • Experience in reviewing state tax partnership and corporation returns, including state combined corporate filings.
  • Experience in advising clients on the US state tax outcomes of business travel/work location, US investments, and fund frameworks.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities while managing internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • CPA, Enrolled Agent status, or equivalent qualification/degree in accounting or taxation.
  • Experience in the preparation and review of state partnership and corporation tax returns.
  • Experience with computing state taxable income, state apportionment, and state tax withholding or estimated payments.
  • Good working knowledge of Go Systems tax software or similar technology.
  • Ability to manage large scale fund compliance projects, multiple funds/deliverables, and cross-border teams of 10+.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with non-tax stakeholders at their clients to explain US tax concepts.
