We are seeking an experienced and motivated SEN Case Officer to support the delivery of a high‑quality child‑centred Special Educational Needs (SEN) service. This role plays a key part in ensuring that children and young people with SEND receive the provision, support and opportunities they need to thrive from early years through to post‑16/19 education.
Key Responsibilities
- Statutory SEN Case Management
- Administer and manage Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments in line with statutory requirements.
- Oversee the annual review cycle ensuring all reviews are processed, quality‑assured and completed within regulatory timescales.
- Lead and coordinate the statutory phase transfer process meeting all key deadlines.
- Engage with families, young people, schools and professionals to gather information, explore provision options and agree the best way forward.
- Draft, amend and finalise EHC Plans in accordance with legal standards and best practice.
- Ensure decisions and processes are accurately recorded, monitored and escalated appropriately when required.
- Consultation & Multi‑Agency Liaison
- Consult with early years settings, schools, colleges, health partners, social care and other relevant professionals to support decision making.
- Provide clear child‑centred communication to parents and carers ensuring they understand processes, timelines and decisions.
- Participate in meetings, panels and case discussions providing informed advice based on statutory duties and professional judgement.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all casework complies with SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and organisational policies.
- Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date electronic case records in accordance with quality standards and information governance requirements.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying service challenges, risks and opportunities for development.
- Customer Service & Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with colleagues contributing to a positive supportive team environment.
- Respond professionally and sensitively to complex or emotionally challenging situations involving families.
- Promote effective partnership working with education providers and external agencies.

Requirements
Ideal Candidate Profile – Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience working within SEND (e.g. local authority education setting, health or care services).
- Strong working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, EHC processes and relevant legislation.
- Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload and meet statutory deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with families and professionals.
- High level of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyse reports, professional advice and assessments to inform decision‑making.
- Proficiency in IT systems including Microsoft Office and case management software.
- Relevant qualification at degree level or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable
- Experience supporting statutory phase transfers.
- Knowledge of education pathways from early years to post‑19.
- Experience working within a local authority SEN service.
