Location: 7020 N Military Hwy Norfolk, VA 23518
Compensation: Up to $35/hour
Schedule: Monday-Thursday: 5:00 pm - 11:00 pm Occasional Fridays for training/make-up days
The Electrical Trades Instructor is responsible for delivering classroom and lab instruction across key topics, including basic electricity, wiring methods, electric services, conduit methods, motor principles, electrical controls, and life safety specialty systems. This role includes teaching assigned courses, maintaining current instructional materials, and managing administrative tasks related to instruction and student progress.
Job Duties, Functions, & Responsibilities:
- Teach classes on a regularly scheduled basis as assigned and create a welcoming environment for students that is conducive to learning.
- Assist Program Coordinator, Campus Director of Education, or Campus Executive Director in developing curriculum, preparing course materials, class scheduling, and maintaining tools and equipment used by students.
- Maintain a neat and orderly classroom or lab.
- Establish and maintain academic and attendance records for student files.
- Submit attendance, grades, student evaluations, and all other reports/documentation to Supervisor or appropriate personnel as required by established procedures.
- Notify Supervisor of any current or potential issues which warrant immediate attention.
- Utilize proven retention techniques approved by the school to assist students.
- Complete performance-based teacher education modules as assigned by Supervisor, based on outcomes of classroom observations, instructor evaluations, and student completed surveys.
- Attend and/or conduct in-service training, faculty meetings or other mandatory meetings.
- Assist with the department equipment and supplies inventory and submit replenishment requests to Supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- Alert Supervisor on student absences, especially on first, third and fifth absence occurrences.
- Perform and complete other tasks that may be assigned by Supervisor.
Education:
High School diploma or GED. Must possess at a minimum, journey or technician level (at least 4 years) in the program field instructing or a minimum 3 years' experience as a certified teacher in a vocational/technical construction or maintenance-related training program in the subject matter field. Must demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge and continuing study of the subject matter.
Experience/Skills:
- Must possess at least 4 years' experience in the field.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven, compliance-oriented educational environment.
- Detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and have the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, strong work ethic, and professionalism.
- Persuasive and effective verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on customer service in an educational setting.
- Highly motivated and goal-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work independently and as collaborative team member and have exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer skills are required with proficiency in MS Office applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
- CampusNexus experience a plus.
- Exhibits a positive, team-oriented attitude by remaining flexible and available to work outside of scheduled hours when needed, as directed by the Supervisor.
- Ability and willingness to travel locally or overnight occasionally for business.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- OSHA 10-hour safety certification within 6 months of hire date.
- CPR certification current or within 3 months of hire date.
- National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER within six months of hire date).
