Role Overview
We’re supporting a client in hiring a Project Controller to work on high-value, complex Defence programmes. You will be responsible for project controls across schedule, cost, risk and earned value, ensuring programmes run to time, cost, and quality standards. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineering teams and the wider PMO to maintain performance baselines, deliver accurate forecasts, and ensure full adherence to project processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and control the performance measurement baseline (scope, WBS, assumptions, IMS).
- Apply Earned Value Management (EVMS) to ANSI/APM standards.
- Build and maintain integrated project schedules using Primavera P6.
- Support project cost management: estimating, cost control, analysis, EAC updates, accruals, invoicing and change control.
- Use Deltek Cobra and ERP systems for cost/schedule integration.
- Facilitate cross-functional project workshops (planning, schedule reviews, risk integration).
- Ensure compliance with internal processes, governance and customer reporting requirements.
- Produce accurate performance reports and support financial / commercial inputs.
Required Experience
- Experience in Project Controls, Planning or Cost Engineering within Defence or another regulated environment.
- Strong working knowledge of EVMS, with practical application in live projects.
- Competent user of Primavera P6 for schedule development and control.
- Experience with cost management systems (Cobra, ERP, finance tools).
- Understanding of project governance, change management and performance reporting.
- Ability to influence, challenge and drive compliance across project teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and workshop-facilitation skills.
Desirable
- Professional qualification in Project Management / Controls (APM, ChPP, PMP or similar).
- Experience supporting SSRO, QSC or CAAS reporting environments.
- Defence sector exposure and understanding of security-controlled programmes.
Applicants must hold SC (UK-only) clearance.
