Join us, be part of more. We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. We do energy differently – we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it. Centrica Technology is a core driver of how we deliver our strategy. You’ll join a team modernising our platforms, strengthening cyber and operational resilience, and advancing a product‑led way of working that brings engineers, data specialists and business experts together to deliver meaningful outcomes at pace. We’re scaling automation and AI from proof‑of‑concept into real, end‑to‑end change – improving customer journeys, reducing cost‑to‑serve, accelerating delivery, and building the digital foundations that underpin everything from energy trading and risk to field operations and critical infrastructure.
If you want to work on complex, high‑impact problems using modern engineering practices, and help build reusable platforms that will shape how Centrica operates over the next decade, this is the place to do it.
Location: UK‑based hybrid role, occasional travel to site.
Day to Day
- Define and maintain the target architecture for all Bord Gáis business lines – Residential, Business and Services.
- Ensure these roadmaps align to Centrica’s enterprise standards and the strategic direction set by Retail Architecture.
- Provide clear architectural direction to guide the transition to ENSEK Ignition and the required simplification/convergence of legacy platforms.
- Design architecture around the outcomes that matter for Bord Gáis – customer experience, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance (CRU/industry), and commercial performance.
- Ensure architectural decisions directly support the OKRs for Billing, Customer Service, Market Operations, and Field Services.
- Challenge solutions that create unnecessary complexity or cost.
- Champion the use of strategic platforms such as ENSEK Ignition and shared integration/API frameworks.
- Ensure Bord Gáis consumes shared capabilities where appropriate, while clearly identifying where the Irish market requires local differentiation.
- Drive reuse of Centrica‑wide accelerators and prevent divergence from Retail architectural guardrails.
- Operate within Centrica’s architectural guardrails and decision rights.
- Own architecture expertise within the Bord Gáis domain, escalating only when choices impact cross‑market capabilities, enterprise platforms, or introduce strategic risk.
- Ensure all designs meet enterprise NFRs, security standards, and data protection obligations.
- Design with an understanding of Irish industry processes (e.g. market flows, Gas/Elec market interactions, DSOs/TSOs, regulatory cycles), integrations to legacy BGE systems, and upstream/downstream impacts.
- Ensure architectures are robust, operable, cost‑efficient, and able to scale for customer growth and increased digital adoption.
- Work closely with the Platform, Product, and Bord Gáis programme teams to ensure designs are buildable and grounded in delivery reality.
- Adapt architectural direction as the architecture evolves.
- Measure architectural effectiveness by delivery progress and post‑go‑live adoption, not documentation.
- In partnership with Product and Finance, ensure architectural options factor in total cost of ownership, cloud economics, licensing (ENSEK & non‑ENSEK), vendor risk, regulatory impacts, and operational cost‑to‑serve.
- Provide clear analysis to support build‑vs‑buy decisions, platform extensions, or local differentiators required for the Irish market.
- Be the trusted architectural advisor for Bord Gáis leadership, including Product Directors, Programme Directors, Engineering Leads, and Technology Leaders and the wider Centrica Retail organisation.
- Communicate architectural decisions clearly and influence outcomes through expertise, not hierarchy.
- Coach and support the Solution Architects and engineers working across Bord Gáis initiatives.
- Promote clarity, quality, platform reuse, and continual improvement.
