About your team: At PH Jones, our mission is to mend it. Our teams have been at the heart of communities for over 50 years. Partnering with local authorities and associations, we support social housing across the UK – installing, upgrading and repairing heating and electrical systems. This role would particularly suit someone with practical experience in either the delivery, management, supervision, technical support or commercial pricing of heating, electrical, renewable energy or building services installation projects.

We are looking for someone who understands operational field delivery, including labour planning, materials, subcontractors, access constraints, productivity, mobilisation and operational risk, and can apply that knowledge to pricing new and retained contracts. Working closely with Bid Management, Operations, Finance, Legal and HR, you will ensure operational and commercial risks, assumptions and delivery requirements are fully understood and reflected within each tender submission.

Role details and benefits:

  • Contract: 1 x Full-time Permanent, 1 x Secondment
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Location: Home Based, with occasional travel to British Gas offices where required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commercial pricing of service, repair, installation, electrical and renewable energy contracts, developing robust and competitive tender submissions.
  • Build detailed pricing models that reflect scope, cost, risk, operational delivery requirements, overheads, margins and profitability.
  • Review tender documentation in detail, identifying pricing assumptions, commercial risks, ambiguities and clarification requirements.
  • Support contract retention and rebid opportunities, including the use of performance data and commercial analysis to inform pricing strategy.
  • Assess key commercial considerations including TUPE, mobilisation, geography, operational capacity, delivery model, subcontractor requirements and market conditions.
  • Develop pricing solutions for both Principal Contractor and subcontractor delivery models, including associated building works, electrical installations, specialist subcontractor packages and site preliminaries.
  • Work collaboratively with Bid Managers to develop winning commercial strategies and high-quality tender submissions.
  • Prepare clear commercial approval papers, financial summaries and pricing recommendations for governance reviews and tender sign-off.
  • Maintain pricing records and use post-tender lessons learned to improve pricing accuracy, tools, methodologies and future bid outcomes.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for a commercially minded pricing professional with practical technical or operational experience in heating, renewables, building services, construction, utilities, social housing or a similar field-based environment. The successful candidate will understand that effective pricing is not just a financial exercise; it requires an appreciation of how works are scoped, resourced, programmed, delivered and managed operationally. You will be comfortable interpreting tender, contract, technical and operational information and translating it into clear, evidence-based pricing recommendations. You will be able to challenge assumptions, assess risk and develop pricing solutions that balance competitiveness with commercial sustainability.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Practical technical, operational or contract delivery experience within heating, renewables, electrical, building services, social housing, construction, utilities, facilities management or a comparable field-based service environment.
  • Understanding of how installation, servicing or repair works are planned, resourced and delivered, including labour, materials, subcontractors, access arrangements, productivity and operational risk.
  • Experience of supporting or developing estimation/pricing, tendering, bid support or contract costing activities.
  • Ability to interpret tender documents, specifications, drawings, schedule of rates or operational information and translate the requirements into financially robust pricing recommendations.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to develop, review and challenge pricing models.
  • Good commercial awareness, including margin recovery, risk assessment, profitability and cost control.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively and constructively challenge assumptions where required.
  • Highly organised and detail-focused, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate work within deadlines.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience of leading commercial pricing activity for tenders or contracts within social housing, building services, utilities, construction, facilities management or a comparable environment.
  • Experience of developing and owning pricing models and commercial recommendations for tenders, bids or contract opportunities.
  • Familiarity with Schedule of Rates, framework agreements, open-book pricing, measured term contracts or similar commercial models.
  • Understanding of TUPE, mobilisation, workforce cost modelling or subcontractor pricing.
  • Experience of supporting bid governance, commercial approvals or tender submission processes.
