We are recruiting for an Indirect Tax Manager to conduct research and analyses of existing and upcoming tax legislation (domestic and/or international); supporting the organization's planning and strategy. It is a key role advising management of the tax implications resulting from projected organizational actions. A strong technical and advisory background is needed along with a commercial mindset.
Location: UK based with flexible home working
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide commercially focused indirect tax advice and partnering services to the Centrica group, supporting the UK based business units, primarily on UK indirect taxes with some international aspects.
- Manage tax controversy liaising with internal and external stakeholders to prepare and submit responses to audit queries, largely in the UK but with some international aspects.
- Oversee indirect tax compliance outside of the UK in conjunction with the Denmark and Ireland tax managers, ensuring the timely and accurate submission of returns by outsourced service providers.
- Contribute to the management of the UK indirect tax compliance process working closely with the VAT compliance team.
- Develop and maintain a strong technical knowledge of indirect taxes including VAT, Climate Change Levy and Insurance Premium Tax.
- Ensure a robust control framework is established and maintained.
- Work with the Tax transformation project to help deliver the transformation strategy for indirect taxes.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Degree level; Tax qualification and tax work experience in practice or in-house also required. By exception, an accounting qualification and/or relevant tax technical or reporting experience can be considered.
- Must have experience and strong technical knowledge of VAT, great if this extends to Climate Change Levy and Insurance Premium Tax but not essential.
- Experience of dealing with HMRC and ideally of indirect taxes in Europe and beyond.
- Ability to research tax technical issues with minimum direction.
- Ability to work independently and provide commercially focused, technically accurate tax advice, taking ownership of delivery.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills enabling efficient interaction with senior Finance and other stakeholders (internal and external) and effective relationship building.
