We’re looking for an experienced HSE Management System Lead to shape and drive safety standards across Centrica. As the HSE Management System Lead, you will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of Safety Standards across the organisation. Working collaboratively with all our business units, you’ll help embed a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with regulations, mitigating risk, and fostering a proactive, prevention-focused working environment—where safety is integral to every process and decision.

  • Policy Development, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement
    • Develop, maintain, and update safety policies, standards, and procedures to ensure legal compliance and alignment with best practices.
    • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations, maintaining thorough records of all safety activities.
    • Promote continuous improvement by identifying trends, implementing best practices, and supporting assurance activities within Business Units.
    • Represent Centrica in the development and implementation of corporate safety policies, both internally and externally.
  • Training, Culture, and Communication
    • Design and deliver safety training for all levels of staff, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
    • Foster a proactive safety culture across the organisation by leading improvement initiatives and promoting policy awareness among employees, contractors, and suppliers.
    • Engage with safety committees, department heads, and front-line supervisors to integrate safety into daily operations and gather feedback.
  • Risk Management and Incident Response
    • Proactively identify and address safety risks through data analysis, site inspections, and expert consultation.
    • Support incident investigations, ensuring lessons learned are translated into actionable safety improvements.
    • Make informed decisions on safety measures, balancing cost, effectiveness, and compliance, while resolving any safety-related conflicts.
  • Leadership and Strategic Engagement
    • Regularly report to the executive team on safety performance, incidents, and strategic initiatives.
    • Collaborate with HSE Directors and external organisations to stay informed of emerging safety practices and to drive strategic improvements across Centrica.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in a Safety Management Systems role
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience of working with regulatory bodies such as HSE
