The Team

Energised Futures is a new research and innovation incubator aimed at shaping a new energy future. We’re building a collaborative team across the UK and Belgium to test ideas, work with researchers and customers, and develop new ventures. This is your chance to influence innovation from within.

We operate in a hybrid, Flexible First way—typically 1–2 days a week in the office, with opportunities to travel to Antwerp. We’re committed to flexible working arrangements to accommodate individual needs.

The Job

As Entrepreneur in Residence, you will lead early development of business opportunities from our research portfolio. Your role involves translating ideas into business propositions, designing models, engaging stakeholders, and supporting go-to-market strategies.

You will work closely with researchers, commercial teams, and partners to test markets, evaluate opportunities, and develop viable business models.

Your work

Opportunity Development:

  • Define strategic opportunity areas and early concepts with research teams
  • Create structured business cases with market sizing, problem framing, and value propositions
  • Develop commercialization strategies and explore go-to-market options

Business Design:

  • Build and refine business models using lean startup and design thinking principles
  • Conduct market and competitor analyses
  • Lead workshops to align stakeholders and explore strategic options

Collaboration and Outreach:

  • Engage with universities, innovation partners, and internal teams
  • Contribute to the team’s innovation and commercialization toolkit

Key Skills and Experiences

A curious, entrepreneurial thinker with a commercial instinct motivated to shape impactful ideas. Comfortable operating in ambiguity, asking sharp questions, and rallying others around new opportunities.

Innovation & Business Development:

  • Experience in shaping early ideas into business cases or ventures
  • Background in entrepreneurship, innovation consulting, product strategy, or early-stage startups
  • Strong understanding of commercial modeling, value propositions, and customer validation

Strategic Thinking & Communication:

  • Ability to structure complex problems and identify clear opportunity spaces
  • Excellent facilitation and storytelling skills

Collaborative Mindset:

  • Comfort working across disciplines and seniority levels
  • Enjoy building relationships, testing ideas, and bringing people along

Education and Background:

  • Degree in business, engineering, innovation, or similar, or equivalent experience
  • Postgraduate degrees are a plus but not required
