The Team
Energised Futures is a new in-house research and innovation incubator created to accelerate a new energy future and deliver on Centrica’s purpose to energise a greener, fairer future. We’re building a dynamic, collaborative team across the UK and Belgium to test new ideas, collaborate with researchers and customers, and turn insights into new ventures. And this is your chance to shape how innovation happens from the inside.
We work in a hybrid, Flexible First way—typically 1–2 days a week in our office. You’ll also have the opportunity to travel to our Antwerp office to connect with the wider team. Whether you need to adjust your hours to fit your lifestyle or have specific needs that require a tailored schedule, we’re here to accommodate. The Job
As Entrepreneur in Residence , you will lead the early development of business opportunities arising from our research portfolio. The role will involve translating ideas into business propositions, designing commercial models, engaging internal stakeholders, and supporting long-term go-to-market plans.
This role is for someone who loves shaping ideas into action. You’ll work hand-in-hand with researchers, commercial teams, and partners to test new markets, size opportunities, and design business models that work in the real world.
Your work
Opportunity Development:

• Work with research teams to define strategic opportunity areas and early-stage concepts
• Turn ideas into structured business cases, with market sizing, problem framing, and value proposition design
• Translate research into commercialisation strategies and explore go-to-market pathways

Business Design:

• Build and iterate on business models, using lean startup and design thinking principles
• Conduct market and competitor analyses
• Lead workshops to align stakeholders and explore strategic options

Collaboration and Outreach:

• Connect with universities, external innovation partners, and internal teams
• Help shape the team’s innovation and commercialisation toolkit

Key Skills And Experiences
A curious, entrepreneurial thinker with a commercial instinct and the motivation to shape ideas that matter. You know how to operate in ambiguity, ask sharp questions, and rally people around a new opportunity.
Innovation & Business Development:

• Proven ability to shape early ideas into business cases or ventures
• Experience in entrepreneurship, innovation consulting, product strategy, business design, or early stage start-ups
• Strong grasp of commercial modelling, value propositions, and customer validation techniques

Strategic Thinking & Communication:

• Able to structure complex problems and define clear opportunity spaces
• Excellent facilitation and storytelling skills – you can make a case and make it stick

Collaborative Mindset:

• Comfortable working across disciplines and seniority – from technical researchers to commercial leaders
• Enjoys building relationships, testing ideas in the real world, and bringing people along

Education and Background:

• You might have a degree in business, engineering, innovation, or similar – or equivalent experience
• Postgraduate degrees (MBA, MSc Innovation, etc.) are a bonus but not a must.
